What do web pages and local components each do?

Web pages handle accounts, content, queries, and visualization; local components participate only when a feature needs capabilities on the user's computer.

For example, the Watch web interface handles the account, device tokens, status, and activity viewing, while Watch Sync connects to 127.0.0.1:5600 on the computer and uploads ActivityWatch events.

Work's local bridge is used when local TeX or other computer capabilities are required. These components should not automatically be described as full native clients.
