Watch · Watch

How is Watch different from ActivityWatch's official aw-sync?

They use different sync architectures. ActivityWatch's official aw-sync is currently beta and relies on a user-chosen file-sync tool, while Watch uses device tokens and the cloud service.

ActivityWatch's current official documentation marks aw-sync as beta. It creates a device-specific staging database in a sync directory and relies on a file-sync tool chosen by the user, such as Syncthing, rsync, Dropbox, or Google Drive, to distribute that directory. aw-sync itself does not send data over the network.

Watch is a separate architecture: its sync tool reads the user's local ActivityWatch REST API and sends authenticated event batches over HTTPS to the cloud data service using an Watch device token.

Watch therefore should not be described as a branded version of ActivityWatch's official aw-sync. It is an independent product that is compatible with ActivityWatch data.
